Unfortunately, the occupation of Tibet in 1960 by China was to become the root cause of neglect and destruction. Dhe-Tsang Monastery now remains in ruins, after years of complete banning of spiritual education and religious prosecution. Hundreds of statues, precious in spiritual and historical value, religious texts, and buildings were completely destroyed.

Since 1993, as the abbot of the monastery, His Eminence Khejok, has started rebuilding the temple, with the vision of restoring this important historical monastery to it's former glory.

Presently, the partially reconstructed school is able to accomodate 500 young monks, providing them with full training in

• languages,
• Buddhism,
• Tibetan religious arts and
• Tibetan medical practices.

The school will train young monks to be skilled teachers of Buddhism as well as practitioners of Tibetan Medicine, in order to spread the teachings of the Buddhas and offer free medical services to the villages of the region.
